The International Welding Diploma is a qualification which demonstrates that the holder has completed minimum requirements for the education, training and examinations which give him/her specific knowledge relevant to responsibilities in welding coordination.

I have academic qualifications and broad experience in welding. Can these be recognised in order to speed up the process?

Subject to assessment, yes. If experience and level of responsibility operating at the corresponding level can be proved, then candidates are eligible to access via alternative route. In any case, a CV must be submitted for assessment.

Yes. It is officially recognised in over 50 countries around the world.

I am not interested in getting the Diploma but I would like to attend one or more the courses. Is this possible?

Yes. You can attend the diploma courses as guests and although you will not be allowed to sit the exam, you will get a Certificate of Attendance.

Is there a document which establishes the minimum requirements necessary to obtain the IIW/EWF Diploma?

Yes. The International Institute of Welding produced the IIW Guideline IAB-252-07 Personnel with responsibilities for welding coordination: Minimum requirements for the education, examination and qualification. This document specifies the syllabus, learning hours, learning outcomes, and examination requirements for the IIW diplomas and is available at www.iiwelding.org

Why is it important to have recognised knowledge in welding coordination?

The International Welding Diploma in context. ISO 14731 Welding coordination - Tasks and responsibilities, specifies that responsible welding coordination personnel shall be able to demonstrate adequate general and specific knowledge in welding and allied processes to perform these tasks. The standard also specifies in its Annex A that welding coordination personnel holding the International Welding Specialist (IWS), Technologist (IWT), or Engineer (IWE) diploma may be considered to satisfy the specific knowledge requirements of ISO 14731.

What are the advantages of complying with ISO 14731?

Compliance with ISO 3834 quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials, is being increasingly specified worldwide as the route to evidence management of quality for welded products. ISO 3834 states the requirement for appropriate welding coordination personnel. Responsible welding coordinators must comply with ISO 14731 and gaining the IWS, IWT or IWE diploma can be a key step in achieving compliance with ISO 3834.

Who can issue this Diploma/qualification?

The diploma can only be issued by an Authorised National Body (ANB), as established by the International Institute of Welding. There is only one ANB per member country. TWI Certification Ltd is the ANB in the United Kingdom.
