Collaboration between TWI SEA and Malaysian institutions to improve training in welding and related technologies

TWI South East Asia has embarked on a partnership with the Welding Institute of Malaysia (WIM) and the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) to improve training in welding and related technologies in the country.

The joint initiative was launched with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which took place at the premises of the Institute of Engineers Malaysia Training Centre (IEMTC) in the city of Petaling Jaya, just west of Kuala Lumpur.

This one-day course covers the basics of the technique, the current state of the art, weld parameters and examples of FSW equipment. It will also feature demonstrations of FSW in action.

In the MoU, the three parties agreed to collaborate on matters relating to training and development, including the delivery of courses and events, training projects and exchange of training personnel. The MoU was signed by Ir Yim Hon Wa, Director of IEMTC, Mr Ernesto Moskini, Regional Manager of TWI SEA and Mr Desmond Yeap, Executive Director of the Welding Institute of Malaysia.

The collaboration will effectively commence with the joint delivery of the ‘Basic Welding Technology for Engineers and Technicians’ course on 2 and 3 August.

The IEM is the professional membership organisation for engineers in Malaysia. Its primary function is to promote and advance the science and profession of engineering and to facilitate the exchange of related information and ideas.

The WIM is the professional membership organisation for welders in the country, and is closely affiliated with The Welding Institute, TWI’s UK-based professional membership division.
