New CSWIP course: Certification of Personnel Reviewing Welding Procedures to ASME IX

The ASME IX standard is widely used in industry and provides an assurance and guarantee that a welding procedure will have the desired joint properties. To ensure personnel are skilled and fully capable of assessing the appropriate welding procedures and qualifications to this particular standard, TWI has developed a new course, Certification of Personnel Reviewing Welding Procedures to ASME IX.

This course runs over four days, during which time candidates will work towards gaining an internationally recognised CSWIP qualification. The first of its kind, this much-needed course will provide a formal structure for candidates to achieve an accredited qualification via a CSWIP examination, in order to demonstrate and prove that their skills and knowledge are at the level required by industry. It would be ideally suited to quality assurance or quality control personnel, welding inspectors, welding engineers and welding co-ordinators in the oil and gas, manufacturing and power generation industries.

In more detail, the course delivers a comprehensive coverage of the following:

  • Codes and standards
  • ASME IX introduction
  • ASME IX
  • General requirements
  • Arc energy
  • Essential variables
  • Non-essential variables
  • Supplementary essential variables
  • Mechanical properties
  • Destructive testing and non-destructive evaluation
  • Formulating welding procedures
  • Welding procedure specifications (WPS)
  • Training exercise WPS and procedure qualification record
  • Welder qualification
  • Welding performance and welders

TWI will provide access to the standard for the duration of the course only, but this will remain the property of TWI. The new course gives candidates an understanding of how to put together a procedure and welder qualification. In addition, it shows how procedures are developed to give the optimum range of approval, using all essential variables.

The first course is scheduled in the UK on 4-8 January 2016 – book now to avoid disappointment.
