Plans to launch underwater welding and inspection training are nearing completion in Azerbaijan

Mr. Rovnag Abdullayev, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan’s (SOCAR) President was thrilled to announce the opening of a new and modern underwater training facility. The pool water is treated with the most effective methods and heated using the latest technologies. There is even a wave generating system to enable lecturers to train in a more ‘real life’ environment. The opening ceremony of the new facility demonstrated how well equipped the school is, especially in providing training for emergency rescue scenarios.

SOCAR has now designated an area in the school for TWI to deliver underwater welding, NDT and inspection training in 2014. There is a rising need for these kinds of competency skills within Azerbaijan’s oil and gas industry, and as well as giving nationals essential skills to work in Azerbaijan, it also gives candidates a fantastic opportunity to gain an internationally recognised qualification that will then allow them to work abroad. The CSWIP (Certification Scheme for Personnel) certification provides internationally recognised, role-specific competence assurance for people engaged in welding, joining, materials integrity and inspection in manufacturing, construction, operation or repair of high integrity structures, plant or machinery. CSWIP certification schemes are UKAS-accredited to ISO/IEC 17024, the international standard for personnel certification.
