TWI-trained gold-winning team from Malaysia demonstrate their welding skills

TWI South East Asia showed its support for the development of young Malaysian welders by training the gold medal winning Malaysian welding team for a young people’s skills competition.

The 11th Asean Skills Competition (ASC) 2016, held in Kuala Lumper on 19-29 September 2016, one of the largest skills competitions in the area, saw ten countries including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam compete.

The winning welding team, which fought off tough competition from Thailand, was managed, trained and guided by TWI’s Malaysian-based welding instructors who helped contribute to Malaysia’s impressive winning haul of twenty four gold, four silver, five bronze medals and six medallions of excellence.

TWI South East Asia is proud to be developing and nurturing the skills of young people in the field of welding and is backing the team to go for gold at the ‘Olympics’ of skills competitions, The World Skills Competition which will be held in Abu Dhabi next year.

Competitions are held around the world to showcase and inspire world-class excellence in skills and introduce young people to a variety of skilled careers.
