TWI strengthens its presence in India
TWI has been very active in delivering its internationally certified CSWIP
courses in India since 1990 and there continues to be strong demand for ind
ividuals that wish to gain qualifications to work in the global arena.
As part of TWI=92s continued commitment to India, TWI exhibited at WELD IND
IA and sent a large delegation of TWI engineers and senior personnel to the
International Institute of Welding=92s conference which was held in Chenna
i in July. The exhibition was well attended
and TWI=92s stand had a constant stream of representatives from existing I
ndustrial Member companies as well as attracting new interest in both its t
echnology and training activities.
September marks another chapter in the expansion of TWI's operations in Ind
ia with the appointment of Jim Kerins as Regional General Manager for TWI I

Australian Welding Institute (AWI) forges relationship with TWI
The AWI has approached TWI with the view of establishing opportunities for
reciprocal arrangements for AWI members so that they can access qualificati
ons and certification.
The AWI sees benefits to its members such as improved knowledge, employment
opportunities and access to qualifications.
It has been widely recognised that some of the major players in the oil and
gas industry prefer inspection qualifications that are from their parent c
ompanies country of origin (ie. UK) rather than just local qualifications t
hat are not so widely understood
internationally. This has been identified as an area where the AWI can ass
ist its members access the tools needed to fulfil their work career pa

Plant integrity management training =96 an update
As mentioned in our June 2011 newsletter, the
Plant Integrity management training has been restructured and now comes
under the CSWIP Plant Inspection Levels 2 and 3 training programme.
The training is predominately based around asset integrity management skill
s, focusing on inspection and maintenance planning, integrity assessment an
d repair based around API and ASME standards and best practice.
TWI held the first pilot training course in September at their Abington tra
ining centre in the UK.
The Welding Institute is investing in and rolling out new methods of contin
uing professional development (CPD) for both its members and CSWIP holders
and would welcome your views on how it can expand its methods to help you w
ith your CPD recording and delivery.
As a member and/or CSWIP holder you are required to keep your skills and kn
owledge up-to-date. Recording your CPD and engaging in professional develop
ment turns learning accountability into a positive opportunity to identify
and achieve individual career objectives.
CPD will help to keep your skills up-to-date and prepare you for greater r
esponsibilities.
Welding of geomembranes - CSWIP exam success for Greenstar in Ireland
Greenstar is Ireland=92s leading provider of environmental, waste managemen
t, skip hire and recycling solutions. Greenstar=92s Ballynagran Residual La
ndfill opened in October 2006, and is permitted to accept 150,000 tonnes of
residual waste per annum from Wicklow
and adjoining counties.
Greenstar are committed to operating at the highest recognised standards, d
emonstrated by having won several awards and achieved ISO 140001 and 18001
certification. They approached TWI in early 2011 having identified a requir
ement to train a number of operators
in the welding of geomembranes.
CSWIP Certification for Welding Technical Representatives
Major changes in the characters of the welding industry have transferred th
e customer interface from the manufacturers to the distributors. The former
were characterised by a substantial technical support effort, whereas many
distributors are small companies
currently short of technical resources.
The UK=92s Association of Welding Distribution (AWD) has recognised the nee
d to enhance the technical standing of its member companies and this CSWIP
certification scheme benefits members of the association by establishing a
minimum standard of technical competence
for the welding sales personnel employed by both distributors and manufact
urers. A higher level of confidence in the technical status and capability
of the companies concerned will thereby result.
