TWI was approached by
ROVision Ltd for advice on training. The company
operates Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) technology to
supply inspection services to many different areas
including oil and gas refineries, pipelines inspections
and construction support for major building
projects.
ROVision recently purchased new infra red cameras to
carry out detailed aerial thermal inspection from their
SR30 helicopter but getting certified training was
becoming a problem as infra red inspection is still in
its infancy.
To meet the high demand
for TWI's training and examination services in
Australia, TWI is changing its presence in the country
and opening its own premises in Perth, Western
Australia.
The new facilities, due to open in May, will become
the head office in Australia.
This course is scheduled
monthly from August 2010 at TWI's Underwater Centre in
Middlesbrough, UK. The package (9 day training and 1 day
exam) is aimed at professional divers who wish to
further their experience in MMA wet welding
techniques.
Successful completion of this programme demonstrates
to employers the high standard that a diver is able to
achieve.
In association with TWI,
Eclipse Scientific will soon be offering advanced CSWIP
NDT training and examinations to comply with the
requirements for certification to EN 473 and ISO
9712.
Welding inspection is the
single most popular CSWIP scheme and is being introduced
to the United States in June.
The course, aimed at welding inspection personnel who
are seeking a formal globally recognised qualification,
will take place at TWI North America's premises in
Houston, Texas from 7 to 11 June.
This CSWIP 3.4U course
ran for the first time in Kuala Lumpur from 1 - 12 March
2010 and attracted candidates from Egypt, Singapore and
Malaysia. The candidates' feedback was excellent - they
were happy with both the lecturing and the
facilities.
In addition to routinely scheduled courses in the UK
and Thailand, further 3.4U courses will be available in
Kuala Lumpur later this year, subject to demand.
As in other parts of the
world, the industrial working culture has changed
greatly in recent years and trained personnel rather
than unskilled manpower is very sought after.
Certification and technical know-how is mandatory in the
technical field and industry.
TWI Central Asia offers a wide ranging training and
examination service in Lahore.
In times of financial
constraint and increasing competition for employment,
the incidence of fraud increases. The Chartered
Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in the UK
estimates that 40% of CVs are false.
Counterfeiting of certificates and falsifying of
training documents is also seen as an increasing
challenge. To combat this, TWI Certification Ltd
provides a free, web-based certificate verification
service (CSWIP and BGAS-CSWIP).
