CSWIP 3.0 Plus - Visual Welding Inspector course with an added Practical Module

The CSWIP 3.0 Plus - Visual Welding Inspector with Practical Module was launched in 2012 to bridge the gap for candidates aspiring to be welding inspectors, but lacking the practical knowledge to underpin their expertise. So far two courses have run successfully with 16 candidates gaining the qualification.

CSWIP 3.0 Plus - Visual Welding Inspector course with an added Practical Module

David Bage, TWI’s lecturer and Visual Inspection and Welding Diploma Manager had observed that on a regular basis, candidates were arriving to take their CSWIP 3.0 visual welding inspector course with virtually no practical experience of practical welding. Frequently, candidates applying to the course had come from an administrative or quality assurance and control background, so lacked this essential know-how.

The new course takes place over four days with the first two being in the welding workshop, where candidates gain the practical skills that can then complement their theoretical understanding. There are then a further two days of welding inspection teaching before the CSWIP 3.0 exam, including:

  • visual inspection procedures
  • relevant codes of practice, terms and definitions
  • welding processes and typical welding defects
  • weld measurements
  • typical documentation and requirements
  • practical inspection and reporting.

This course is available without the practical module: CSWIP 3.0 Visual Welding Inspector - Level 1 (2 days). TWI also trains and qualifies welders and weld procedures on-site. For further information or enquiries, please contact David Bage or call the training school on +44 (0)1223 899500.
