In memory of Mark Rogers, TWI Thailand country manager

TWI is sad to report the loss of its country manager for Thailand, Mark Rogers, who died on Wednesday 3 August.

Mark, who worked for TWI for 11 years, played a leading role in the company’s training business in South East Asia, where his hard work led to significant, sustained growth. As country manager for Thailand he was responsible for ensuring all courses in the country were properly run and adhered to safety and quality standards. He also lectured on TWI’s welding inspection courses and ensured course materials and question papers were kept up to date.

Mark was an unforgettable character and hugely popular among his colleagues and TWI’s customers. With a background in the British steel industry, his knowledge of the welding industry and non-destructive testing was second to none.

A proud Yorkshireman, Mark fell in love with South East Asia some years ago, choosing to make Kuala Lumpur his home. His dry Yorkshire wit, cheeky smile, fantastic sense of humour and ability to tell a great story meant he was always a pleasure to spend time with, and he built many long-lasting friendships in his new home.

While Mark’s exhaustive knowledge of welding engineering would have been clear to anyone who met him, what would have perhaps been less immediately apparent is that he was also a talented artist and photographer, and a lover of classic literature. His illustrations appear in TWI’s training materials, and could be seen in his office.

Mark’s contributions to training have benefited thousands of students and he will be sadly missed by his colleagues in the Thailand office.
