New scenario-based assessment is popular with students and industry

In response to customer and industry feedback TWI Training and Examination Services and TWI Certification Ltd have implemented a new approach to candidate assessment during CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector training and examination.

Scenario-based assessment has been successfully proven in scheduled courses in the UK, India and Malaysia and is now being introduced in all CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector courses. One of the key responsibilities of a CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector is to take decisions based on national and international standards. The new scenario-based approach requires the candidate to apply their knowledge and understanding to representative tasks and make decisions against specifications and standards. The CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector examination is aimed at experienced welding inspectors, and the scenario-based assessment requires the candidate to work through a case study and reference documents to answer the multiple-choice examination questions. The scenario-based approach effectively assesses the candidate’s ability to undertake their role and apply specifications to determine the acceptability of welded production and welds, just as they would in the workplace.

Career Progression

The CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector scenario-based assessment has proved to be a highly popular approach, with positive feedback from candidates and industry, and is part of TWI's process of regularly reviewing its portfolio of courses and certification schemes to maintain CSWIP's position as the world leader in its field.
