POWIS Innovation Scholar joins TWI in Wales to help develop Thermography

Pavan Addepalli joined TWI Training & Examination Services at TWI Technology Centre
(Wales) in Port Talbot in April 2010. He is a research scholar pursuing his PhD
with the University of Wales under the prestigious Prince Of Wales Innovation Scholarships
(POWIS).
Pavan is one of the one hundred world-class graduates placed by POWIS in welsh companies
for a period of three years. The world-class scholars undertake research and development
on any aspect of the company's work - for Pavan it is Thermography.
The CSWIP Level 1 course in Thermographic Inspection recently launched is not only
useful in NDT but also during plant inspection as it is a condition monitoring technique
able to determine the working condition of electrical and mechanical systems, machines
and components. The industries that would benefit from this training include
- Power & Distribution Industries
- Manufacturing; Aerospace, Automotive, Paper
- Oil & Gas
- Service Industry
- Construction
- Medicine
Pavan will be working on developing Infrared Thermography as an innovative non-contact
technology to help develop condition monitoring as an engineering diagnostic tool
and in the assessment of composite material condition under the supervision of Prof.
Roderick Thomas.
Pavan graduated in Mechanical engineering in 2005 from Anna University, India. His
expertise has been in the design and optimization of materials. His M.Phil in Materials
engineering at Swansea University dealt with characterization of advanced magnesium
alloys used in automotive and aerospace industries at a microstructural level.
Pavan and Prof Roderick Thomas have been invited to an event at Prince Charles'
residence in Llandovery, Wales on 2nd July which HRH The Prince of Wales will be
attending.
