Is it for me?

The course covers: Computerised Radiography (CR), Digital Radiography (DR) and Computerised Tomography (CT)

Radiographic Testing Operators qualified to at least Level 1, in accordance with ISO 9712, engaged in radiographic testing/interpretation who need to update their knowledge to incorporate digital radiography.

Also personnel engaged in the supervision, control and interpretation of radiographic images who wish to expand their knowledge to incorporate digital radiography.

What will I learn?

Theory:

  • Digital radiography basic principles
  • Image quality assessment
  • Assessment of the CR phantom
  • Classification of CR system to current DR standards
  • Radiographic techniques and standards
  • Radiographic interpretation of digital images
  • Digital image manipulation tools including their use
  • Measurement tools and their use
  • Exposure considerations using CR imaging plates

Practical demonstrations:

  • Digital radiography
  • Computerised radiography
  • Computed tomography

What else should I know?

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
No formal qualification required although a good understanding of Radiographic principles is desirable.

Computerised Radiography (CR)
A type of digital radiography that uses photostimulate phosphors (PSPs) to capture a latent image on the imaging plate.

Digital Radiography (DR)
It is a form of x-ray imaging, where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film.

There are various types of digital image capture devices including flat panel detectors (FPDs).

Computed Tomography (CT)
Computed Tomography (CT) is a powerful non-destructive evaluation (NDE) technique for producing 2-D and 3-D cross-sectional images of an object from flat X-ray images. Characteristics of the internal structure of an object such as dimensions, shape, internal defects, and density are readily available from CT images.
