CSWIP 3.0 Visual Welding Inspector Course Ends in Cambridge

Four days of welding inspection theory, practical learning and hands-on workshop activity are coming to a close at TWI Cambridge, as the latest CSWIP 3.0 PLUS – Visual Welding Inspector with Practical Module course concludes today, 27 August.

The course began on 24 August, bringing together the theory and practical elements needed to develop a stronger understanding of visual welding inspection.

For those working with welded products, visual inspection is an important part of quality control. Knowing what to look for, how to assess welds and how welding processes can influence the final product all contribute to effective inspection. Throughout the programme, delegates have explored visual inspection procedures, relevant codes and standards, welding processes and defects, weld measurements, inspection reporting and documentation.

Taking inspection knowledge into the workshop

A key feature of the PLUS package is its practical module, which gives delegates the opportunity to complement their inspection knowledge with hands-on welding activities. The workshop element covers areas including health and safety, welding process advantages and limitations, joint preparation and fit-up conditions, and the causes and avoidance of welding defects. This practical experience can help inspectors better understand the products they are assessing and the factors that can contribute to weld imperfections.

By combining welding knowledge with inspection techniques, delegates develop the ability to identify weld imperfections, carry out visual examinations, report findings and assess welds against specified acceptance criteria.
