CSWIP Welding Inspector: Elearning and Practical Training
For professionals looking to progress their welding inspection knowledge while keeping time away from work to a minimum, TWI Training and Examination Services is offering the CSWIP Welding Inspector Online Course with Practical and Examination course package, taking place in Rotherham from 9–10 September 2026.
The course combines flexible online learning with focused practical training and examination, allowing candidates to complete the theory element in advance and then attend TWI for the hands-on stages.
The online element provides approximately 28 hours of learning across 30 sections, covering key areas including welding inspection duties, terminology, imperfections, weldability, materials inspection, welding processes, heat treatment, weld symbols, repairs, destructive testing, codes and standards, and NDT. Candidates can work through the material at their own pace, with access to course notes, presentations, videos, questions and tutor support.
Once the online learning and required homework have been completed, candidates attend for one day of practical training followed by one day of examination. This approach helps reduce the amount of in-person time, while still providing an opportunity to develop and demonstrate practical inspection skills.
During the practical element, candidates build their ability to inspect and assess welds against acceptance criteria, interpret drawings and welding symbols, report inspection findings and understand the factors that influence the quality of fusion welds in steel.
A flexible route towards CSWIP certification
With 60 days of online access ahead of the examination, the course is designed to fit professional development around existing work commitments. Candidates can progress through the theory at a pace that suits them before focusing their time at TWI on practical preparation and examination.
The package is intended for candidates who meet the relevant CSWIP entry requirements, including those with appropriate welding inspection experience or qualifying CSWIP welding inspection, instructor, supervisor or foreman experience.
