Educate the Educators Event for Teachers in Middlesbrough
TWI / The Welding Institute recently welcomed teachers from across the Tees Valley area to our Middlesbrough training centre for an 'Educate The Educators' event focused on advanced manufacturing and engineering.
Held on 18 February 2026, the event formed part of the Educate the Educators Programme delivered in collaboration with Tees Valley Combined Authority. The day was designed to give teachers a first-hand insight into modern welding, inspection, and non-destructive testing (NDT), enabling them to better guide and inspire future generations of engineers.
The programme opened with an overview of TWI's training, examinations, and engineering career pathways, followed by a guided tour of the Middlesbrough facility. Teachers then took part in a series of interactive, hands-on workshops, experiencing the same methods and technologies used in industry-led training.
Workshops covered Penetrant Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Eddy Current, Ultrasonic Testing, Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing, and demonstrations of the TWI Learning Hub. These sessions highlighted the breadth of technical capability available and challenged traditional perspectives of welding by showcasing its role within advanced manufacturing.
The day concluded with a Q&A session and evaluation, reinforcing the importance of strong partnerships between educators and industry. TWI extends its thanks to Suzanne Strathren, the participating teachers, and TWI staff members Stephen Wisniewski, Jayne Keating, Ian Watson BSc, Chris Graham, Marek Wojcik, and Tony Kraus for their contributions to a highly engaging and informative event.
TWI looks forward to welcoming future cohorts of teachers and students, continuing to build sustainable links between education and industry and supporting the next generation of engineering talent.
