Gaining the Right Qualification to Close the Knowledge Gap
Vivien Diawani recently took advantage of the Lloyd’s Register Foundation-funded SEASEP initiative in Indonesia to take the CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector course.
Her work as a supplier development engineer at PT Caterpillar Indonesia means that she needs to understand the fabrication processes of her suppliers so that she can identify any problems that may have in order to offer them suitable solutions.
Having come from a painting engineering background, Vivien was soon involved in the fabrication line, where she realised that she had a knowledge gap related to visual inspection of fabrication processes. This inspired her to seek training that could supplement her existing knowledge and so she approached her manager for support in taking TWI’s visual welding inspector course.
The course taught Vivien to be able to identify acceptable welds, as she explained, “I took CSWIP 3.0 as introduction to my welding inspection knowledge and, since I’ve found this training very beneficial to my career, I am planning to continue to higher level courses to completely achieve my goal.”
Vivien was also sure to note that the funded SEASEP programme was helpful in helping her, like so many others, to develop her skills and take the next step in her career progression. She also explained how having experienced lecturers who could translate the information and explain the concepts in her local language was hugely beneficial to her learning.
She also recommends that other beginners seek out the Lloyd’s Register Foundation-funded SEASEP – TWI Indonesia training in order to develop their careers too.
