Important Update for PCN Certificate Holders

BINDT have recently agreed a certification process with WQ-iC Ltd to ensure PCN certification is accepted under the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED).

This means that PCN certificate holders will still be able to undertake non-destructive testing on permanent joints for pressure equipment from categories III and IV in line with section 3.13 of schedule 2 of the European PED.

What must I do now?

Individuals who hold existing valid certificates must validate their certificates using a form on the WQ-iC website by 30 April. Failure to do so will invalidate your approval.

Validation is free of charge and you will receive automatic recognition to the PED which will be visible on the WQ-iC verification page. You will also be issued with a certificate showing your compliance with PED. EU PED approval will remain valid until the certificate has expired.

Complete the form on the WQ-iC website, here.

New and Revalidated Certificate Holders:

From 1 May 2021 PCN holders will gain automatic recognition to the PED and your status will be visible on the WQ-iC verification page. You will also be issued with a certificate showing your compliance with PED. Your approval will continue until the certificate expires.

PCN will charge an additional PED fee of £45 (+VAT) for each recertification and initial examination for the following methods within the pre and in-service welds sector:

  • Eddy Current
  • Magnetic Particle Testing
  • Liquid Penetrant Testing
  • Visual Testing
  • Ultrasonic Testing (including Critical Sizing)
  • Radiographic Testing and Interpretation
  • TOFD
  • Phased Array
  • Computed Radiographic Testing and Interpretation

This means that the total levy costs are now £123 + VAT (UK) and $185 (USA).

You can find out more about the changes on the BINDT website.
