Laser DED Training with TWI

Laser Directed Energy Deposition (DED) is a metal additive manufacturing process that can deliver a range of benefits for a range of industries.

Our experts can provide training on the technique, which is finding applications ranging from the additive manufacturing of parts for industries including the space, aerospace, oil and gas, and defence sectors, to the delivery of functional coatings (including for replacements for Chromium-6), and for the repair and remanufacture of high-value components.

Laser DED can create complex bespoke parts for industry and offer additional material properties such as anti-corrosion through the application of functional coatings. However, one of the largest growth areas for the process is for the repair and remanufacture of existing components. This cost-saving application is already in use in the aerospace sector, with a wide range of other industries now gaining interest in its ability to restore components with high quality at a fraction of the cost of a full replacement.

The repair or remanufacturing of components allows damaged or worn parts to be returned to their original condition, or even improved with additional properties. This makes it an increasingly attractive option for companies wishing to reduce the environmental impact and costs due to scrapped parts.

Laser DED Training with TWI

TWI’s experts can help you to realise the benefits of laser DED with our `Laser DED Advanced Training` offering. We offer a four-day training course, going from the process fundamentals to in-depth machine hardware understanding and characterisation. The training is 50% theoretical and 50% hands-on. We are the only organisation in the UK currently offering hands-on training in laser DED. In addition, if required, we can provide support at your facilities to ensure your staff are ready to work on the systems you have in-house.

Because the training is highly flexible, our experts can work with you to solve your particular challenges.

This training is available to both Members and non-Members of TWI and companies are invited to email our laser additive manufacturing team manager, Jhonattan Gutjahr at Jhonattan.gutjahr@twi.co.uk to find out more, discuss your requirements, and organise your own training.
