Lifetime Achievement Award
Chief Manager of Welding, Mr Ravi Raja Rao
has received the Indian Institute of Welding’s
prestigious LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT award.
TWI India’s Chief Manager of Welding,
Mr Ravi Raja Rao has been awarded a Lifetime
Achievement award in recognition of his
selfless devotion and dedicated contribution
to the welding industry. The award also
honoured his 40 years of experience in the
field of welding science and technology,
having devoted his entire career to serving
the welding industry.
Mr Rao gained his bachelor’s degree
in metallurgy from the prestigious Indian
Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, before
going on to attain a post-graduate qualification
in metal joining from the same institution.
Taking his academic knowledge with him, Mr
Rao began working on developing welding
related activities including fabrication,
repair, maintenance, design, marketing,
welding procedures, testing, research, teaching,
training and consumable development for
a number of leading companies. This work
allowed him to continue learning as he gained
plenty of valuable experience.
Since welding relates to a range of industries,
Mr Rao was able to meet and interact with
people working in areas including heavy
engineering, ship building, automotive,
nuclear, thermal power, mining, cement,
oil and gas, refineries, fertilisers, and
defence and more. This variety of opportunities
gave him a better understanding of welding
requirements and subsequently allowed him
to develop welding solutions. Each of these
solutions proved to be a significant addition
to Mr Rao’s knowledge, providing satisfaction
that he was able to contribute to several
critical and prestigious projects.
Mr Rao’s years of professional experience
have earned him coveted recognition, including
his C.Eng. FWeldI and Fel.I.Inst.W.
In addition, Mr Rao has contributed to the
betterment of technology by participating
in seminars, exhibitions, and workshops,
as well as through writing technical papers,
delivering training programmes and so on.
He also had the chance to serve as a member
of the Indian Institute of Welding, acting
as President for three years. In 2011, Mr
Rao led the team who organised the Annual
Assembly of IIW, which was the first time
it had been held in India, as well as receiving
the Dr DRG Achar Memorial Award. Mr Rao
continues his work at TWI India, where he
conducts welding inspection and diploma
courses.
Mr Rao was given the Indian Institute of
Welding’s Lifetime Achievement Award
on 6 February 2020 at the International
Conference 2020 of International Institute
of Welding at Mumbai.
