Meet The Lecturer: Hassan
Hassan grew up in Kemaman in Malaysia, a city where oil and gas was the major local industry, so it is perhaps no surprise that he decided to take a career in the booming local engineering field. Aged 18, Hassan learnt welding at a local technical institute before taking a welding apprenticeship, which prepared him to work on larger projects.
As his career progressed, Hassan found himself working in inspection. After a few years of experience he decided to look into opportunities in NDT, both to challenge himself and also to improve his income. He trained in conventional NDT methods and moved into NDT inspection, working on numerous projects as a quality control inspector.
Having built up a wealth of experience and knowledge in quality control inspection, Hassan decided to change his career again, this time by lecturing at a Malaysian institute. Four years later, he joined the lecturing team at TWI Malaysia. While he took a year’s break to start his own rope access training business, Hassan returned to his lecturing job at TWI in 2008, where he took on the responsibility of delivering welding inspection courses as well.
With a knowledge of both conventional and advanced NDT techniques, Hassan also teaches welding inspection courses from level 1 right up to senior welding inspector across South East Asia. Already a certified IIW specialist, Hassan hopes to soon add QC coordinator to the range of courses he delivers. Passionate about his lecturing work, Hassan believes that his role plays an important part in developing the next generation of specialists who will go on to become the experts of the future.
