Penetrant Testing (PT) Course Underway in Cambridge
A new non-destructive testing (NDT) training course in Cambridge has commenced this week, on 23 March, bringing together candidates to develop practical skills in penetrant testing (PT). The course will run through to 26 March 2026.
Delivered by TWI Training, the programme is being led by trainee NDT lecturer Selamawit Abate under the supervision of senior NDT lecturer Andreas Sotiropoulos. The course includes five candidates attending from across the UK, including Coventry, Shropshire, King’s Lynn and Daventry.
Building Practical Inspection Skills
The course combines classroom-based learning with practical laboratory sessions, allowing candidates to gain a well-rounded understanding of penetrant testing techniques. A structured daily format supports this approach, with theory sessions (T5) delivered in the classroom during the morning, followed by practical penetrant testing laboratory work in the afternoon.
Participants are introduced to the principles of inspection before applying these through hands-on experience using relevant equipment and procedures. Training covers key areas such as surface preparation, application of penetrants, interpretation of indications and evaluation of results in line with industry standards.
Supporting Industry Standards
Training in penetrant testing (PT) forms part of a suite of conventional non-destructive testing methods that underpin safety and reliability across critical infrastructure. As industries continue to demand consistent inspection quality, structured training remains essential in developing skilled personnel.
Upcoming Course Dates
Further opportunities to attend our penetrant testing (PT) training are available throughout 2026 at both Cambridge and Middlesbrough locations, including:
- Cambridge: 18-22 May, 13-17 July, 7-11 September, 19-23 October
