Practical Welding Inspection Training in High Demand

Places are already full for the upcoming CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector with Practical Module course starting 5 October, highlighting continued interest in practical welding inspection training.

The combined programme brings together two days of welding inspection training and two days of practical workshop activities, giving candidates the opportunity to develop their understanding of both welding and the inspection of welded products. Visual welding inspection requires more than identifying imperfections; candidates need to understand welding processes, weld features, relevant terminology, inspection procedures, measurements, documentation, and applicable codes and standards.

The practical module couples with the inspection training through hands-on activities, covering areas such as joint preparation and fit-up conditions, welding processes, health and safety, and the causes and avoidance of welding defects. This combination is designed to help candidates develop practical welding knowledge that supports their understanding when inspecting welded products.

The course is designed for welders, operators, line inspectors, foremen, welding quality control personnel and others who require basic training in welding inspection alongside a qualification.

By completing the training, candidates can develop their ability to identify weld imperfections, understand relevant welding technology, carry out visual inspection, report findings, and assess welds against specified acceptance criteria.

The course is followed by the CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector qualification examination for candidates who meet the relevant requirements. While there is no specific experience requirement to attend the course, TWI recommends a minimum of six months' welding-related engineering experience and two years' industrial experience. Candidates are also required to meet the relevant CSWIP requirements.
