Q&A with NDT Lecturer, Alireza Ziaeddinni
Hi Alireza, can you start by letting us know a bit about your role at TWI?
I am an NDT lecturer and I teach conventional and advanced NDT techniques. I am also subject matter expert for advanced ultrasonic techniques. In addition to that, I am responsible for course and exam material development.
What is your career background and why did you choose to become a lecturer?
I started my career as a welding and NDT inspector in steel structure and developed my inspection experience in the oil and gas industry after I joined TWI in Central Asia.
What led you to teach at TWI and how is your experience here going so far?
I am really enthusiastic about teaching. I am fortunate enough that, since I gained a lot of experience of site inspections, my manager gave me the chance to teach NDT in parallel with my previous responsibilities for site inspections in the Central Asia region.
Can you tell us what courses have you been teaching at TWI?
I teach penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, ultrasonic testing, phased array ultrasonic testing, and time of flight diffraction testing.
What new things do you think your students can learn while training and teaching at TWI with you?
On top of standard syllabus for each technique, I really enjoy sharing my practical experience, which I gained during years of site inspection. Sometimes, candidates do share their valuable experience and I really enjoy the interaction.
