Q&A with NDT Project Leader, Andrew Jeffreys
Hi Andrew, can you start by letting us know a bit about your role at TWI?
I am a project leader at TWI. My principle role is as an examiner/lecturer within the domain of the NDT training programme.
What is your career background and why did you choose to join TWI?
My career background includes working in in plant maintenance, aerospace engineering (including military), maintenance and NDT.
In addition to that, I also have the experience of being an offshore project engineer, using bespoke eddy current NDT.
How do you find it working as a Team Lead?
I think I find it just fine; it involves adapting and using my previous knowledge and roles. But, of course, like any other position, it has its challenges and can be very frustrating at times.
Can you tell us what intrigues you most in a leadership role?
The thing that fascinates me most about my role is being able to provide the best possible experience to my students during their training courses.
How do you think TWI training will progress in the future?
I think it is a mixture of things, such as remaining competitive with our counterparts by investing in new lecturer positions, procuring new NDT equipment, and continuing to bring our products up to the latest standards and industry practices. Thus fulfilling one of our mission statements to deliver “the next generation of experts for industry.”
