Q&A with Project Leader, Lynn White
Hi Lynn, can you start by letting us know a bit about your role at TWI?
I am working as a project leader for the IIW/EWF Diploma in Engineering at TWI. I take customers from the initial enquiry through the process until completion, right to the time when certification is handed over. In addition to that, I also look after invoicing for all the portal companies.
What is your career background and why did you choose to join TWI?
I have been with TWI for 13 years and I have always worked in administration that is leaning towards the financial side. During my time at TWI, I moved departments to Professional Membership for three years and then was appointed as the project leader.
My decision to work for TWI was a simple one, I had always heard good things about the company. During my previous job, I drove past TWI every day and said to myself that, one day, I will work there. It was my dream job and I got it!
How do you find it working as a project leader?
I enjoy my work. I have to be my own powerhouse sometimes. It is up to me to make sure that the flagship programme of TWI runs smoothly and efficiently.
What made you decide to take this particular role?
I started with the diploma as an administrator but progressed to running and making decisions on the admin side of the role. I liked working in that field and this eventually gave me the promotion and recognition for my work.
Can you tell us what intrigues you the most in your role?
I like meeting students, advising and guiding them on gaining the diploma qualification and making sure that the students complete the modules required for each level, in the time scale allowed. I feel that my students and colleagues respect my knowledge and experience within the role and are confident when coming to me for advice.
How do you see TWI Training progressing in the future?
I think there will be great changes within TWI Training. There has been a huge move to courses being delivered online, away from classroom-based teaching. In the near future, exams will be in the same way, which will increase timescales and efficiency. However, at the moment, I do not see the diplomas changing a lot, as the IIW accreditation still insist on the classroom taught lectures.
