Radiographic Interpretation of Welds course ongoing at TWI
Radiographic Interpretation of Welds course is currently ongoing by TWI Training in Cambridge, started on the 5th of August, Wednesday this week.
This course has been designed for personnel responsible for assessing the standards and quality of radiograph and report with inform decisions regarding the identity and extent of revealed defects. The course os designed for radiographers, inspectors, engineers, and surveyors who wish to interpret radiographs but do not have an in-depth understanding of the principles of radiography.
During this training, the candidates work on real radiographic interpretation specifications based on EN ISO standards (including the acceptance criteria). The specific knowledge is based on minimum necessary theoretical background followed by number of exercises, which help the candidate to gain confidence when working with standards and procedures, ensuring that the correct approach and assessment is carried out according to criteria. The important part of training is spent on interpretation exercises. The course is based on real cases from industrial practice.
Radiographic interpretation training provides essential knowledge on the theory aspects of radiography and covers the practical interpretation of the standards and quality that enable interpreters to judge welds and castings. The difficulty level of assigned tasks is gradually increased so students will progress from basic level of interpretation to advanced interpretation.
The course has open discussion environment that provides multiple learning outcomes and students can do cross-discussions of a particular task and learn from other participating candidates. Each interpretation session includes all students being assigned a task (that is the same) and they carry out interpretation independently from the rest of the group under the guidance of expert lecturer. It is then followed by multiple-choice questions (mcq’s), which focusses on key areas of radiographs. The questions provide additional valuable guidance to the student. Each of the sessions is closed by an open discussion on the correct answers and reporting.
The requirements of the training are in accordance with EN ISO 9712.

- General and Specific theory parts are based on multiple-choice questions
- Practical part of PCN examination is based on written reports, CSWIP practical part uses again multiple-choice question format
The course ends with the examination.
