TWI Adhesive Bonding Technical Workshop
We are now accepting registrations for our upcoming ‘Adhesive Bonding Technical Workshop’ at TWI.
The first adhesive bonding course of 2025 took place from 28-31 January with a wide range of attendees from different backgrounds.
This course has attracted attendees from industries including defence, medical devices, oil and gas, shipbuilding, the adhesive supply chain, train and coach building, automotive fabrication, motorsports, EV battery fabrication, aerospace, and more. The roles that our trainees come from include those working in everything from shop floor assembly through to design, sales and even up to senior management.
Aimed primarily at designers and manufacturing staff, the training is based around the EWF European Adhesive Bonder syllabus and is a mixture of theory and practical run over four days. The course can be used as a foundation for further learning or as a refresher course for those already using adhesive technologies.
Understanding the underlying science and technology allows users to appreciate the design rules that need to be adapted according to requirements and applications. Attendees gain an understanding of the advantages offered by adhesives with regards to functionality, fabrication time, cost, and design freedom. Trainees will also be introduced to new material combinations that can offer significant cost savings in product manufacturing compared to other joining techniques, such as welding or fastening.

- Adhesive selection
- Different adhesive systems
- Introduction to designing with bonded joints
- Dispensing adhesives
- Surface treatments
- Properties of cured adhesives
- Mechanical testing of bonded joints
- Durability and accelerated ageing
- Quality control
- Health and safety aspects
The course also provides ample opportunity to network with other attendees and discuss current, past or future challenges with TWI experts, either openly or in confidence.
