For commercial divers working in underwater inspection, developing the ability to carry out increasingly advanced NDT techniques can open the door to greater technical responsibility and career progression.
Starting 17 August 2026, TWI Training will deliver the CSWIP 3.2U – NDT Inspection Diver course, designed specifically for commercial divers looking to progress from CSWIP 3.1U and develop advanced subsea inspection capabilities.
Moving beyond general underwater inspection, the 3.2U programme focuses on advanced NDT techniques used to assess subsea components and welds. Candidates receive theoretical instruction based on the CSWIP-approved syllabus while developing practical skills in areas including magnetic particle inspection, weld toe grinding and electromagnetic techniques.
From inspection to advanced NDT Subsea inspection often means working in demanding environments where accurate detection and assessment of potential defects are critical. The ability to apply appropriate NDT techniques underwater can provide valuable information about the condition and integrity of structures without taking them out of service.
Through practical training, delegates develop the skills needed to carry out advanced subsea NDT inspections and understand the principles behind the techniques they are applying.
By the end of the programme, candidates should be able to explain the theoretical principles associated with subsea NDT inspection and demonstrate practical competence in advanced underwater NDT techniques. Successful completion also provides eligibility to sit the CSWIP 3.2U examination.
The CSWIP 3.2U is the next step to 3.1U qualification. It represents a natural progression for commercial divers who have already established their foundations in underwater inspection.
The wider career pathway can extend into roles including CSWIP 3.3U ROV Inspector and CSWIP 3.4U Underwater Inspection Controller, giving experienced professionals opportunities to continue building their subsea inspection expertise.
To attend the course, candidates MUST hold a current and valid CSWIP 3.1U certificate as well as an in-date HSE-approved full commercial diver medical certificate.
