Update from TWI Virtual Academy
Following the global success of the Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) blended
learning course, which saw candidates from UK, Brazil, New Zealand, Denmark, Spain,
and Canada successfully gain BS EN ISO 9712 Level 2 certification; the start of
2017 also marked the launch by TWI of eleven new e-Learning products including two
new course packages for Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Time of Flight Diffraction (ToFD),
which as with PAUT, lead the candidate to BS EN ISO 9712 certification.
Why not consider blended learning?
Blended learning for these three courses offers the benefit of supported e-Learning;
it uses animations and video to enhance the theoretical aspects, along with a programme
of interactive exercises to convey the key concepts of data acquisition and analysis.
Candidates can then go on to attend the classroom practical aspect of the course.
Once they have completed both elements of the training they may take their chosen
BS EN ISO 9712 certification exam.
The first e-learning ToFD Level 2 course group graduated in March 2017; 75% opting
for the blended learning route, thus reducing classroom attendance to one week rather
than two, and 25% choosing the pre-course study package prior to two weeks classroom
attendance. The pre-course package enables a candidate to prepare and improve their
performance in class, with structured e-Learning material matched to the course
syllabus. This process increases candidates’ potential of passing the certification
exam, and ultimately becoming a more competent operator.
The candidates for both the blended learning and pre-course study packages found
the eLearning very easy to follow. They and the lecturer felt that it prepared them
well for the practical classroom-based sessions.
TWI Training and Examinations also announced a series of non-certification e-Learning
support products for the three ultrasonic methods: Pre-Course Study, Refresher Package,
and Appreciation Package. For further information on these and our e-Learning options,

Academy website.
