Virtual BS 7910 Metallic Structure Flaw Assessment Training

TWI is re-running a popular Zoom version of our ‘Structural Integrity Assessment and Practical Application of BS 7910 Procedures for the Assessment of Flaws in Metallic Structures’ training course from 3-10 November 2021.

The previous online course saw attendees joining from across the UK, the USA and France, and enquiries have already begun arriving from across the world for the upcoming course.

Who Is It For?

This course is suitable for attendees from a range of backgrounds, including:

  • Mechanical Engineers
  • Structural Engineers
  • Materials Scientists
  • Postgraduate Researchers

Course Details:

Available to attendees from both Member and non-member companies of TWI, the course is designed to provide a firm foundation in the application of BS 7910 to the assessment of flaws using fitness-for-purpose methods. The course includes:

  • The concepts of fitness-for-purpose and engineering critical assessment (ECA)
  • The practical applications of fracture mechanics - covering brittle and ductile fracture, plastic collapse, fatigue crack growth and stress corrosion cracking
  • Fracture and fatigue procedures in BS 7910, with an emphasis on how they are applied to welded structures
  • The assessment of circumferential flaws in pipeline girth welds
  • Relevant subjects related to BS 7910, e.g. failure case studies, non-destructive testing (inspection), materials properties and fracture toughness testing
  • Practical training in fracture and fatigue assessments using TWI’s CrackWISE® fitness-for-service (FFS) software

The course is delivered by specialists for each subject (fracture toughness testing, ECA, NDT, materials, fatigue, etc.), using lectures, informal discussion, quizzes, videos and software exercises to help your learning and engagement.

Course Delivery:

The course is being delivered via Zoom from 9:00-12:30 (UK time) on six weekday mornings spread across two weeks (from 3-10 November 2021).

TWI’s Matt Haslett, who delivered the course last time, explains, “The online delivery format allowed us to reach more people and share our knowledge. The delegates were all well engaged and this contributed to the positive atmosphere throughout the course.”

Feedback:

We have already received positive feedback from those who attended our previous online version of the course:

  • “[The] online course was delivered in a really organised, efficient and smooth way”
  • “Conducting the course only on half days over a 6-day period enabled me to catch up with work in the afternoons, which was appreciated”
  • “Sound and picture quality of the presentations were great - no technical issues”
  • “Thank you for running the course, I thought it was very informative and thorough”
