What It Takes to Become a CSWIP Welding Inspector
For welding professionals looking to strengthen their inspection knowledge and work towards CSWIP Welding Inspector certification, TWI Training is offering an upcoming course in Southampton from 19 October 2026.
Delivered by Mike Jamieson, the course combines structured classroom learning with the preparatory knowledge provided through TWI's Welding Inspector PLUS Theory Pre-course eLearning, giving candidates the opportunity to revisit key technical areas before and during their full training.

Preparing for CSWIP Welding Inspector Certification
Is This Course Right for You?
The route to CSWIP Welding Inspector certification starts with meeting the eligibility requirements. For eligible candidates, the Welding Inspector PLUS Theory Pre-course eLearning provides a structured foundation before the full classroom-based training and examination.
*With 11 modules covering everything from welding inspection duties, codes and standards and welding defects through to NDT, weldability, heat treatment and welding equations, the eLearning gives candidates the opportunity to build their theoretical knowledge and identify areas requiring further attention before attending the classroom course. The candidates receive 60 days' access ahead of their examination, can track progress and revisit topics where they need additional study.
Eligibility for the CSWIP Welding Inspector route
There are three routes into the CSWIP Welding Inspector PLUS Theory Pre-course eLearning:
- At least three years’ welding inspection experience, under qualified supervision, with the relevant duties and responsibilities independently verified
- At least two years as a CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector, with experience in the relevant welding inspection duties
- At least one year as a CSWIP Welding Instructor, CSWIP Welding Supervisor or Welding Foreman
Note: In all cases, candidates must also comply with Clause 1.3.4 of CSWIP document WI-6-92, and the experience must be verified by the candidate’s current or previous employer/company.
The eLearning is intended as an essential foundation before the full classroom-based CSWIP Welding Inspection course. It is not a standalone qualification. It can be used as preparation that allows candidates to identify areas where they need further study and then discuss those areas with their lecturer during the classroom course.
