What will I learn?

This course is to prepare you for the BGAS-CSWIP Senior Pipeline Inspector examination, the course covers:

  • Duties and expectations of Senior Pipe Inspectors
  • Codes and standards used within the National Grid Network

And provides refresher training on the following subjects:

  • Site coating inspection
  • Welding inspection
  • Ultrasonic inspection
  • Radiographic interpretation
  • Magnetic particle inspection

What will I leave with?

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Answer multi-choice and narrative questions in the Senior Pipeline Inspector exam
  • Conduct inspections using UT and MPI
  • Successfully interpret radiographs
  • Pass the BGAS CSWIP Senior Pipeline Examination



What else should I know?

You MUST bring:

  • 2 passport sized photographs
  • A valid eyesight certificate from a doctor or an optician showing satisfactory eyesight for near vision, permitting reading a minimum of Times Roman N5, or equivalent type and size letters, at not less than 300mm on a standard test chart for near vision, in at least one eye, corrected or uncorrected. Candidates will be required to have had a colour perception assessment by the Ishihara 24 plate test or equivalent
  • A completed application form and full examination fee

Important information regarding the BGAS-CSWIP scheme

The minimum duration for industrial experience prior to or following success in the qualification examination is 24 months.

Candidates must also already hold the following certifications:

  • BGAS-CSWIP Pipeline Welding Inspector
  • BGAS-CSWIP Site Coating Inspector
  • BGAS-CSWIP Magnetic Particle Inspector
  • BGAS-CSWIP Ultrasonic Inspector
  • BGAS-CSWIP Radiographic Interpreter
