Alternating current field measurement (ACFM) is an electromagnetic inspection technique for the detection and sizing of surface breaking cracks in metallic components and welds. This NDT technique combines the advantages of the alternating current potential drop (ACPD) technique and Eddy Current Testing (ECT).
This course is designed for you if you are a currently or previously approved 3.4U Inspection Controller, a currently or previously approved CSWIP 3.1U or 3.2U Diver, a surface practitioner certificated under CSWIP, or qualified in a relevant engineering science.
What will I learn?
This course will provide you with an overview of NDT techniques, electrical and electromagnetic theory, ACFM detection - identification of cracks, weld inspection by ACFM techniques, sizing for length and depth, reporting, and backing-up data.
This training is in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9712 and ends with the certification examination.
What else should I know?
NDT Level 2 personnel
An individual certified to Level 2 has demonstrated competence to carry out
NDT operations in the method and sector described and in accordance with written instructions under the supervision of Level 2 or 3 personnel. The individual has, under assessment, demonstrated the ability to set up the equipment, carry out the tests, record the results obtained, classify the results in accordance with written criteria, and report the results.
Important Note: Whilst not a formal prerequisite, it is highly recommended that candidates have some prior industrial exposure to the method itself as well as to the sector that they will be attempting (e.g. welds). Where this is not possible, candidates are advised to thoroughly review the course notes and complete the relevant product technology e-learning (and methods e-learning where this is available) prior to attending the classroom training.
This preparation will significantly ease their study during the classroom sessions and improve their chances of successfully passing the examinations.
The minimum required experience for certification is 180 days for direct access to level 2 or an additional 135 days if already holding Level 1 Certification.
