Is it for me?

This course is designed for experienced PAUT technicians looking to expand their knowledge and gain an internationally recognised certification in phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT).

Everyone at TWI Training understands that we are undergoing challenging times around the world at the moment due to the COVID 19 pandemic. We appreciate that attending in-class courses is impossible in most countries due to restrictions on gatherings in order to protect everyone. However, with this mind, TWI is delivering online live courses, so that you can continue to improve your knowledge and expertise, wherever you are.

The training is in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9712 and ends with the certification examination.

What will I learn?

This course will teach you the principles of phased array inspection, principles of phased array probes, principles of inspection sensitivity, and phased array instrument. You will also learn about scanning with phased array probes, calibration and checks, software for data collection and data analysis, and principles of data analysis. The course will also teach you about software familiarity, use of software tools for defect detection and sizing, data analysis, procedures for verification of flaw existence and position, and reporting.

Typical equipment used on the course: Olympus Omniscan, TD Focus Scan, Sonatest Harfang, Zetec Topaz, M2M Gekko equipment. If your course is equipment specific please contact us to confirm the equipment that will be used for the event.

What will I leave with?

  • The course content remains the same as a classroom-based course
  • The student will be able to attend the theory training sessions, delivered by TWI Training Lecturers, via Zoom, WebEx or similar platforms
  • The course material will be distributed electronically prior to and during the course
  • The delivery of the practical aspects of the course differs depending on your region
  • In all cases, the examination will take place, in the usual way, when the TWI Centres re-open post Covid-19

What else should I know?

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
CSWIP candidates should be qualified to a minimum of BS EN ISO 9712 in Ultrasonic Testing.

CSWIP certification is also available for candidates holding ASNT UT Welds. It will be considered on an individual basis and evidence of training and experience presented to the training centre on application. Non-BS EN ISO 9712 certificate holders will be required to sit the CSWIP UT Welds Level 2 General Paper.

Please note:  Inspectors who do not hold BS EN ISO 9712 Level 2 certification in ultrasonic inspection are required to view the CSWIP document.

The minimum required duration of training, which includes both theoretical and practical elements, is:

  • Level 1 - 80 hours
  • Level 2 - 40 hours (Direct Level 2 - 104 hours for CSWIP)

The minimum duration for experience prior to or following success in the qualification examination is:

  • Level 1 - 3 months for CSWIP
  • Level 2 - 3 months (Direct Level 2 - 6 months for CSWIP)
