Is it for me?
Individuals with limited or no previous experience of these welding processes, but who wish to learn them, including maintenance staff required to install and repair plastic pipe systems, welding engineers unfamiliar with these processes and engineering apprentices. This course also caters for experienced pipe welders, looking to enhance their knowledge further and gain a recognised qualification in plastic pipe welding techniques. Taking this course can help ensure good quality welds are made, meaning weld defects and subsequent leakages are avoided.
What will I learn?
Introduction to common thermoplastics (PVC, PP, PE, PVDF); key processing techniques; joint preparation; defects and how to avoid them; process control; inspection and testing; health and safety; practical butt fusion, socket fusion and electrofusion welding in polypropylene, polyethylene and/or PVDF
What will I leave with?
- An understanding of practical welding - butt fusion, socket fusion and electrofusion and the ability to weld pipes of different diameters using all these welding techniques
- An ability to be able to identify plastics materials
- An ability to implement procedure control and safe operation
- An understanding of welding procedure specification and follow plastic pipe welding procedures
- An understanding of material weld properties
- To be able to identify faults/defects and how to avoid them
What else should I know?
An examination leading to
CSWIP certification can be provided following this course if required.
When held at TWI in the UK, the training will be conducted using
