Advance Your Pipeline Inspection Expertise
Pipeline integrity depends on effective inspection across multiple disciplines, from welding and coating assessment to non-destructive testing. For experienced inspection professionals, the ability to understand these different inspection methods and apply the relevant standards is an important part of working in senior pipeline inspection roles.
TWI Training’s BGAS-CSWIP Senior Pipeline Inspector Course and Exam Package prepares candidates for the Senior Pipeline Inspector examination, refreshing knowledge across key inspection disciplines and the codes and standards used within the National Grid Network.
The next course takes place at TWI’s Middlesbrough facility from 9–13 November 2026.
Senior pipeline inspectors need a broad understanding of inspection activities and the responsibilities associated with overseeing pipeline quality and integrity. The course covers the duties and expectations of senior pipeline inspectors, alongside the codes and standards used within the National Grid Network. It also provides refresher training across several core technical areas:
- Site coating inspection
- Welding inspection
- Ultrasonic inspection
- Radiographic interpretation
- Magnetic particle inspection
Bringing these subjects together helps candidates revisit the knowledge required to assess inspection findings across different methods and understand their relevance to pipeline inspection.
Refreshing knowledge across inspection disciplines
Pipeline inspection involves different techniques, each contributing to the assessment of material condition, fabrication quality and potential discontinuities. A senior inspector needs to understand how these methods are applied and how their findings contribute to inspection decisions. As part of the preparation, candidates revisit ultrasonic testing and magnetic particle inspection, alongside radiographic interpretation and coating and welding inspection. The course also prepares candidates for the multiple-choice and narrative elements of the Senior Pipeline Inspector examination. The programme is intended for experienced professionals who already hold the relevant BGAS-CSWIP inspection qualifications. Entry requirements include the specified certificates across welding, coating and NDT inspection, as well as a minimum of 24 months of industrial experience. Requirements vary by certification grade, so candidates should check the published criteria before booking.
