From Apprentice to Industry Professional

We were pleased to welcome former TWI employee, Josh Hale, back to our headquarters near Cambridge to attend the CSWIP Welding Inspector 3.1 training course, including theory-based pre-course eLearning.

Josh began his career with TWI over ten years ago as an apprentice, progressing to become a senior technician. In 2022, he moved to Rolls-Royce—an Industrial Member of TWI—where he now works as a Field Service Welding Engineer.

As part of continued development within Rolls-Royce, Josh and several colleagues returned to TWI to undertake welding inspection training. He described the experience as a “mutual opportunity”, allowing him to build on his existing knowledge while supporting both his current role and ongoing professional development.

Reflecting on the course, Josh highlighted the balance between theory and practical application, noting that the hands-on elements added real value to the learning experience. He also commented on the supportive learning environment and the strong technical knowledge delivered by the trainer.

Looking ahead, Josh expressed interest in progressing to the CSWIP Welding Inspector 3.2 course, with long-term ambitions of achieving Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

It was a pleasure to welcome Josh back to TWI and see the progression of his career within the industry. We look forward to supporting his continued development in the future.
