Senior Welding Inspector Training Underway at TWI

This week, TWI Training welcomed a new cohort of delegates as the latest CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector Package got underway in Middlesbrough, supporting experienced welding inspection professionals looking to advance their technical expertise and achieve one of the industry's most respected qualifications.

Building on the knowledge gained as a certified welding inspector, the CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector course is designed for especially those who are proceeding to the CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector examination. It is essential that you have a knowledge of the subjects covered in the CSWIP Welding Inspector course before joining this senior welding inspector course. It is also advised that you do some home preparation ahead of this course as it covers a wide range of subject matter.

It is your responsibility as examination candidate to either hold CSWIP Welding Inspector or consider attending the CSWIP Welding Inspector course and examination (WIS5E) prior to this course/examination.

Throughout the programme, delegates develop a deeper understanding of inspection planning, quality assurance, applicable standards and technical decision-making, helping them prepare for the increased responsibilities expected of senior inspection personnel. The package combines structured learning with examination preparation, equipping candidates with both the knowledge and confidence needed to achieve certification.

This course will teach you about QA and QC as well as destructive testing, heat treatments, welding procedures, welding dissimilar and residual stress and distortion. The programme will also cover weldability, weld fractures, weld repairs, welding consumables, and welding symbols. In addition, the Senior Welding Inspection course will look into non-destructive testing, specifications, joint design, HSLA and quenched tempered steels, arc energy, and heat input.

This course offers 16 different subjects, so good prior knowledge and preparation will offer you a significant advantage before attempting the course and examination. Since this course builds on the CSWIP Welding Inspector course, it is advised that applicants refresh their knowledge by revising the material from this course too. You may also wish to increase or revise your knowledge through reading one or more of these welding handbooks:

  • Jeffus, Welding Principles and Applications
  • A C Davies, The Science and Practice of Welding and The Practice of Welding
  • AWS Welding Handbook Volumes One and Two

As industries continue to demand highly skilled inspection professionals capable of maintaining quality, compliance and asset integrity, achieving CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector certification remains a valuable milestone for career progression across sectors including energy, fabrication, construction, manufacturing and offshore engineering.

With the course now underway, candidates have begun an intensive learning journey that will strengthen their technical capability and support their continued professional development within the welding inspection industry.
