Entry Requirements: Which Grade is Right for You?
Depending on your background, qualifications, and experience, you may be eligible for one of three certification levels:
Senior Pipeline Inspector Grade 1R
To apply for this grade, candidates must have the required industrial experience and hold valid BGAS certificates in all the following:
- Welding Inspector
- Site Coating Inspector
- Ultrasonic Operator
- Magnetic Particle Inspector
- Radiographic Interpreter
Senior Pipeline Inspector Grade 1A
This level is designed for those with the same BGAS certifications listed above, along with a valid ISO 9712 Level 2 certificate in either Phased Array Data Analysis or Phased Array Data Interpretation.
Senior Pipeline Inspector Grade 2
To be eligible for Grade 2, candidates must hold valid BGAS certificates in:
- Welding Inspector
- Site Coating Inspector
- Ultrasonic Inspector Plate
- Magnetic Particle Inspector
- Radiographer or Radiographic Interpreter
A minimum of 24 months of industrial experience is required for all grades, which can be gained either before or after passing the qualification examination.
What Will You Gain?

- Confidently tackle both multiple-choice and narrative questions in the Senior Pipeline Inspector exam
- Perform inspections using ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle inspection (MPI)
