GWO Sea Survival is part of the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) course portfolio, which sets the standards for training in the global wind energy and renewables industry. GWO Sea Survival provides the skills and knowledge to travel safely to and from offshore wind installations.

The course provides delegates with the basic skills and knowledge to act in a preventative way from when they stand on the quay by departure until they have returned safely. This includes using possible aids, rescue equipment and methods.

What will I learn?

Delegates completing a GWO Sea Survival training course will be able to:
  • Work on offshore wind installations
  • Demonstrate sea survival techniques and safe transfer between vessels and installations
  • Use possible aids/rescue equipment and methods

What will I leave with?

This training is designed to ensure delegates understand survival procedures when working in and on wind turbines, with particular emphasis on travelling to and from offshore installations, and safely transferring between vessels and installations.
Upon completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with a GWO approved Sea Survival certificate. Certification is valid for 2 years. Prior to expiry delegates must retake GWO Sea Survival Training to remain certified.
By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Survival at sea
  • Lifesaving appliances (LSA)
  • National and international legislation
  • Man overboard techniques Life rafts
  • Hypothermia and cold water immersion.
  • Transfer of personnel and their luggage to wind turbine generators and vessels

What else should I know?

WINDA
The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) have launched a Global Wind Industry Records Database (WINDA), which allows you to verify your GWO certificates with employers. Registering with WINDA is quick and easy, and you must do this before arriving for your course.
