Is it for me?

The CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector online course and exam package is designed for welders, operators, line inspectors, and foremen who carry out the visual examination of welded joints. It is also suitable for welding quality control staff and anyone who needs basic training in welding inspection alongside a qualification.

The elearning material for this CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector Online Course reduces the time in-class by one day. The course and exam can be completed in one day whereas the classroom-based course and exam are two days duration.

The online material, as detailed below, covers the theory element of the course. The material will be provided after you log on the site. The online learning is approximately 23 hours of content.

What will I learn?

The Visual Welding Inspector Online Course will cover: introduction; typical duties of a welding inspector; inspection equipment; welding terminology and definitions; welding process video; welding processes; welding imperfections; plate inspection; practical plate guide; weld map exercise; weld gauge; weld gauge video; training plate walk through; practical inspection of fillet welds; training fillet walk through; fillet weld questions; welding safety.

The inspection of a plate and fillet welds will be done on the morning of your examination day.

What will I leave with?

By the end of the course you should be able to:

  • Identify various weld imperfections (defects)
  • Understand the relevant welding technology related to visual inspection
  • Understand the need for documentation in welding
  • Be aware of codes and standards related to inspection requirements
  • Carry out inspection of parent materials and consumables
  • Carry out visual inspection of welds, report on them and assess their compliance with specified acceptance criteria
  • Pass the CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector examination

On completion of the online learning, there will be a further requirement for you to attend a half day classroom practical training followed by a half day examination on the afternoon.
