This course is aimed at all personnel including testers, inspectors, engineers and surveyors who require a thorough and comprehensive introduction to ultrasonic testing of welded joints.
This course is also suitable for personnel working in the aerospace industry and can be found under the Aerospace section.
The eLearning training is part of the ‘blended learning’ UT package; ‘a mix of eLearning and in-class practical training followed by certification to BS EN ISO 9712. The online modules can be studied when and where it is most convenient and at your own pace.
The package ‘ separates the learning of key concepts from the learning of a specific instrument,‘ coupled with interactive exercises focused on the principles behind set-up, calibration, acquisition and data analysis. An intuitive logical training structure, which invariably‘ helps the students understand key concepts, step-by-step.

In addition to the eLearning element of the Ultrasonic Testing training, you will then attend practical classroom training for 10 days.
Note for candidates wishing to enrol on a course which includes blended learning: It is a mandatory requirement to issue access to the online material no less than 30 DAYS prior to the commencement of the in-class element of the course. There shall be no exception to this requirement, please plan your study to embrace this requirement.
What will I learn?
eLearning: - Module 1: Basic Principles of Ultrasound and Ultrasound Testing
- Module 2: Zero-Degree Ultrasonic Testing
- Module 3: Angled Ultrasonic Testing
- Module 4: Review
Students attending the UT Level 2 training will go through each topics in more depth.
Classroom:Basic principles of sound; generation and detection of sound; behaviour of sound in a material; the flaw detector; use of angled beam probes for weld scanning; welding processes and weld defects; practical exercises on test specimens containing simulated flaws; examination of parent plate, butt welds; instruction writing.
The course ends with the certification examination.
Training in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9712.

In addition to the eLearning element of the Ultrasonic Testing training, you will then attend practical classroom training for 10 days.
What happens when you book on this blended learning course?
All you need to do is book on the blended learning package in the same way as standard TWI courses. Your payment will be taken in full. You will be then receive an email with login and licence details so that you can access eLearning. You will have 60 days from the first login to complete the eLearning part of the course before attending the classroom element.

PCN in India and South East Asia
We would like to bring to your notice that TWI India and TWI South East Asia have decided to withdraw ATO of BINDT. Hence, they will not be in a position to undertake any PCN courses or exams.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no mandatory course entry requirements.
Training requirements:
The minimum required duration of training, which includes both theoretical and practical elements, is:
- Level 1 - 40 hours
- Level 2 - 80 hours (Direct Level 2: 120 hours)
The training hours requirement is fulfilled when candidates attend one of TWI's training courses.
Certification requirements: The minimum duration for experience prior to or following success in the qualification examination is:
- Level 1 - 3 months
- Level 2 - 9 months (Direct Level 2: 12 months)
Certification will not be issued until successful completion of the examination and the required experience is achieved.
This direct access Level 2 training course meets the 120 hour training requirement for BS EN ISO 9712 certification.
Level 1 training and examination can be catered for within the Level 2 course if required, contact the test centre for details.
