Indonesian University Visitors at TWI HQ

A delegation of lecturers from the Politeknik Negeri Manado University in Indonesia visited TWI’s headquarters near Cambridge in October 2019 to find out more about the work of TWI and The Welding Institute.

The visitors, led by the university’s Vice Director for Academic Affairs, Mareyke Alelo, were provided with a tour of TWI’s facilities and briefed on TWI’s areas of expertise. They were also given a presentation on the history of TWI by their host, Neil Harrap.

The delegation enjoyed the tour and were impressed with the facilities as well as the wide range of operations undertaken by TWI, from research and development to consultancy services and training.

This visit to TWI follows a visit by TWI Indonesia’s senior business development manager, Husni Athaillah, to the Politeknik Negeri Manado University in Manado earlier this year. Husni Athaillah went to the university to speak about the SEASEP initiative and explore the possibility of future collaboration.

TWI will now provide support to the university’s mechanical engineering department through the creation of a welder training centre which will see graduates tested and certified to the standards of the internationally recognised CSWIP certification scheme.

The graduates will study under the ‘Train the Trainer’ programme, which is funded by Lloyd’s Register foundation as part of the SEASEP initiative. The programme will target people living in coastal areas and working in the maritime industry. The aim of the programme is to improve the competency and standard of performance for the staff employed by the industry, guaranteeing a higher level of safety as well as an improved quality of life for those involved in the projects.
